The Art of Reading. Witness.

"Our books will bear witness for or aginst us, our books reflect who we are and who we have been, our books hold the share of pages granted to us from the Book of Life. By the books we call ours we will be judged...our books build on other books that change or enrich them, that grant them a chronology apart from that of literary dictionaries."

Alberto Manguel, "The Library as Mind".

"By the books we call ours we will be judged"...a softer version of the US Patriot Act that came to be post 9/11! That could be a scary scenario; if people were to judege us by what we read. In fact the Patriot Act allows for the Gov to look into the books we check out of the Public libraries! A violation of ones privacy won't you agree?

That is disconcerting. I do not know if it is the same over here. Mind you, I doubt that the books I take from public libraries would show much: they stock middle-of-the-road books in the main so I guess I would appear as a somewhere in the middle type of person. If only radical subversive books were publically available!
